COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, Eau Claire community leaders met at L.E Phillips Memorial Library to update on the city's fight against homelessness through a new data-driven plan that names Angie Stokes as the key contact. They will meet again this summer to review progress while officials pointed out that police handled over 3,000 homeless-related calls last year.  WQOW

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Officials announced that three empty Holiday gas stations will be turned into Circle K convenience stores and gas stations—one on Clairemont Ave and Folsom Street near Menards and another on Birch near Hastings Way and Golf Road. A public notice stated the Birch site has submitted an application for a liquor license and Circle K has not yet confirmed a timeline for openings.  WQOW

CULTURE NEWS

  • A Chippewa Valley middle or high school choir will get the chance to sing along with Foreigner at the Northern Wisconsin State Fair on Saturday, July 12 as they perform 'I Want To Know What Love Is' at 4 p.m., with the winning choir also receiving a $500 donation—nominations are being accepted now—.  WEAU

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Chancellor James Schmidt announced his departure from UW-Eau Claire to become President of James Madison University in Virginia and thanked Eau Claire at a Friday press conference. Interim Provost Mike Carney will serve as Interim Chancellor effective June 30 — a change marking a new chapter for the university.  WEAU
  • Eau Claire Area School District Superintendent Michael Johnson said he is very worried about potential cuts to federal funding that help 421 school districts support students in need—such as those who rely on food assistance and special education services. A report from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction shows that these funds support vital programs and jobs, making any loss a serious concern for the community.  WEAU
  • Chippewa Valley Technical College has been named a Military Friendly School with gold status by a national organization, marking the first time the college has earned this honor. It said the recognition reflects its support for service members and their families through dedicated advisors, priority registration, and special events.  WEAU
