ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A firefighter sustained a minor injury while battling a kitchen fire on Trimble Street just before 5 p.m. Tuesday as crews rescued one dog and two cats from a home that had already been evacuated.  WQOW
  • On Tuesday afternoon, the Eau Claire Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 2232 Trimble St+all occupants had evacuated, with one firefighter injured and one dog+two cats rescued; damage is estimated at $75,000 and investigators suspect a cooking fire.  WEAU

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Jersey Mike’s Subs is hosting its 15th annual Day of Giving in Eau Claire. Today the chain will donate 100% of sales from its locations on Golf Road and W. Clairemont Avenue to Special Olympics Wisconsin between 10 a.m. — 9 p.m.  WQOW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tuesday afternoon, the City Council passed a resolution to update the tree ordinance that has not changed since 1970. The resolution will set new tree care rules, change approved species lists plus adjust licensing fees for tree care companies.  News8000.com
  • Kathryn Schauf, who has served as County Administrator since 2015, announced her retirement in a letter to County Board Chair Nancy Coffey and will retire on July 10th—she said she is ready to embark on the next chapter of her life. The county will soon begin searching for a new administrator.  WQOW
  • Early voting for the Wisconsin Supreme Court race saw more than 345,000 ballots returned by Tuesday—48% above similar early counts two years ago. More than $73 million has been spent on the race, including over $14 million from Musk-funded groups, as both sides prepare for the final day of voting on April 1.  WEAU
  • Dozens of people attended a town hall in Eau Claire to discuss how a $2 trillion federal spending cut might force Medicaid funding cuts affecting over one million state residents (local legislators and advocates warned that lower funding could reduce care services and worker pay).  WEAU

  • MS-Take Charge is hosting its Walk & Roll event on Saturday, March 29 at the Sonnentag Event Center between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to raise awareness about Multiple Sclerosis — the event will feature a one-mile indoor walk, food, drinks and activities led by university students.  WEAU

  • UW Eau Claire softball kept their red-hot start alive with a home doubleheader against Northwestern on March 25th. UW-Stout hosted the Blue Devil Invite prep track and field meet on March 25th — both events showcased local college sports.  WEAU
