- ➤ A local moving company is running a donation drive to support women and families affected by domestic abuse. The Movers for Moms campaign will collect canned goods, personal care items and household essentials from 12 local businesses (in Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls, Altoona and Lake Hallie) from April 1 through May 9. - ➤ Decadent Gifts and Gallery uses its program called Art is a Gift (which invites community members to wrap wildflower seeds in recycled paper) to brighten group homes with growable art that will bloom this summer. - ➤ Eau Claire celebrated its 153rd birthday yesterday and honored its founding when three villages merged in 1872—original wooden buildings burned down and streets were rerouted over time. The city now shows a different look from its early days. WQOW

- ➤ School officials said they worry that cuts to funding will hurt programs like special education, food services and teacher support after the U.S. Department of Education laid off half its workforce about one week ago—districts may have to hold votes if funds drop further. WEAU

- ➤ Residents in Town of Washington voiced concerns about a proposed Evergreen Terrace development that could build over 100 homes as city council will review the plan next week. - ➤ A new study from public policy research group RStreet released March 11 showed that nationwide police recruitment difficulties have affected staffing in Eau Claire.
