COMMUNITY NEWS

  • WEAU announced new streaming options after Dish Network dropped its service. Viewers can watch live via the station’s website and streaming devices (Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, and YouTube).  WEAU

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Eau Claire Area School District plans to expand its mental health services with a four-year funding plan from a Wisconsin nonprofit. The district says this effort will boost access to resources for students and staff.  Leader-Telegram
  • Eleva-Strum School District is seeking a three-year $600,000 referendum to lower property taxes if approved. The measure is on the ballot on April 7 (officials warn that failing it could trigger staff and program cuts) and is intended to help maintain current operations amid stagnant state aid.  WQOW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Eau Claire County Sheriff's Office received a donation of 32 LifeVac kits from the Wollum family in honor of former sheriff Ron Cramer, who passed away in 2022. Sheriff Dave Riewestahl said the life-saving gear adds crucial tools to every patrol and detective squad car.  WQOW
  • Eau Claire officials are considering transferring operations of Hobbs Ice Arena amid a $2.2 million deficit next year, but local youth hockey and figure skating groups worry a management change could force cuts and shortened hours ahead of a March 31 grant deadline.  WQOW

  • Ella Wendling from Wausau and Benji Paral from Eau Claire won the Junior Mixed Doubles national title last weekend at the Cape Cod Curling Club in Massachusetts — they beat Jersey Hollands and Connor Grabow by 8 to 7.  WEAU
  • Former Menomonie head coach Mike Sinz accepted the Eau Claire North head coaching role. Regis boys basketball, UW-Eau Claire softball and Blugolds baseball are set to play soon, while Eau Claire Curling Club’s Benji Paral and Ella Wendling won the junior mixed doubles national title (a notable achievement).  WEAU
