  • A memorial was held Saturday in Warrens to honor firefighter Lori Boelkes who died last month on February 27 after suffering a stroke on a fire call. Friends, family and local leaders gathered to remember her life—Governor Tony Evers ordered flags to fly half-staff from sunrise to sunset.  WEAU

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Mega! CO-OP closed its remaining service station locations on March 14, 2025 as its board ended operations due to cash flow problems after it had announced a planned exit from the Holiday Stationstore franchise in May 2024 — the co-op had served our community for 90 years but struggled with reduced fuel profits during its recovery from bankruptcy.  WEAU
  • On Friday, March 14, Mega! Co-op closed its remaining gas station locations in the Chippewa Valley—following a restructuring after its 2023 bankruptcy and ending its Holiday franchise. The board decided on the closures—citing cash flow pressures and reduced fuel margins that led to a rebranding as BP stations in May.  WQOW

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Tree planting season is here in Eau Claire as spring weather follows a mild, dry winter. Hanna Hollister from Down to Earth Garden Center said people are calling to plant native trees like maple and thornless hawthorn before they bud—planting will begin at the end of this month.  WQOW

SPORTS NEWS

  • Kamron Diermeier hit a shot in the final .05 seconds to give Elk Mound a 54 to 52 win over Amery — placing the team in the boys state tournament. Elk Mound rallied from a 13 point deficit to win the division 5 sectional title — marking their fourth state appearance.  WEAU
  • Turtle Lake advanced to the state tournament after defeating Rib Lake 53-45 in the sectional final—Head Coach Angela Wagner became the first female to lead a boys program to state play.  WEAU
