  • Chippewa Valley Veterans Tribute Foundation announced a $160,000 donation from Altoona's VFW Post 10405, funding a matching campaign and the creation of a dedicated Vietnam Memorial along the Tribute Trail; the event kicks off on March 29 (Vietnam Veterans' Day) at Cowboy Jacks in Altoona from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.  WEAU

CULTURE NEWS

  • Ashley for the Arts has announced Ernest as the headliner for the Arcadia music festival from Aug. 6 to 8. The country singer will perform in Memorial Park at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8.  WQOW
  • MidWest WeirdFest and A Night of Horror opened last Thursday at Micon Downtown Cinema in Chippewa Valley with the Wisconsin premiere of Tim Connery's horror anthology The Driftless — a film set in the Midwest with local details. Passes for additional screenings remain available.  WEAU

  • The Economic Development Division released a report that reviews 35 years of business loans showing how Eau Claire’s economic landscape has evolved; the report outlines past trends and future expectations for local business growth.  Leader-Telegram

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students competed in the Titan Business Challenge Thursday morning as part of a Junior Achievement simulation designed to teach business skills; winners will earn a trip to the state competition in Sheboygan later this spring.  WEAU
  • High school students visited UW-Eau Claire on Thursday morning to try their hand at entrepreneurship during the Junior Achievement Titan Business Challenge at the Davies Center. The winning teams earned scholarships and will compete statewide in Sheboygan.  WQOW

  • Beaver Creek Reserve advises residents to delay lawn mowing and garden work until daytime temperatures stay above 50° (to protect insects and pollinators). Naturalist Megan Giefer-Schimmel suggests starting indoor gardens or planning layouts until spring brings consistent warmth.  WQOW

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Kwik Trip bought the former BP site on the corner of Hwy 93 and Lorch Avenue near Fleet Farm, and fences were installed around the property this week. The company does not need permits to start demolition but has not yet submitted final plans to the city — a timeline for reopening remains unsettled.  WQOW
