  • Home for Good will host its first Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 28. Participants can register for a 2K or 5K walk in downtown Eau Claire — then enjoy a community meal at the Lismore Hotel to learn about the nonprofit’s work in affordable housing.  WQOW

  • Local consignment retailer Just Between Friends will host its Consignor Kick-off Party on Thursday, Feb. 26 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Sammy’s Pizza, where families get free pizza and tips to tag items for a spring sale set from April 30 to May 3 at the Expo Center.  WEAU

CULTURE NEWS

  • UW-Eau Claire Theatre presents Eurydice at JAMF Theatre, a new show that retells the Greek myth from Eurydice's view. Performances run Feb. 27-28 at 7:30 p.m., Mar. 1 and 8 at 1:30 p.m., and Mar. 4-7 at 7:30 p.m.  WEAU
  • Eau Claire North High School's show choir, the Northernaires, were crowned Grand Champions at Medford Red White Spotlight— the first win in program history — with roughly 70 performers earning category awards. Friends and Family Night is scheduled for March 5 at 6 p.m. at the school.  WQOW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Eau Claire’s Putnam Heights Elementary honored first grade teacher Melissa Rueber with the Golden Apple award today (week four of award visits) at the Eau Claire Area School District, and she received $500 in sponsorship from UW-Eau Claire and the Public Schools Foundation. Rueber is recognized for inspiring young readers to grow and learn.  WEAU
  • The L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library has announced 'Here's Looking at You, Kid,' a youth talent showcase for students in kindergarten through 12th grade set for April 3. Interested children may participate with live performances or creative displays, and applications close on March 15.  WQOW

  • City Planner Ned Noel said trees near Oakwood Hills Parkway and Cypress Street are being cleared to create space for 36 townhome units and a private road—details on the project will be discussed at a city council meeting in March.  WQOW

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Eau Claire Health Department is reporting high levels of norovirus in Eau Claire County—public health nurse Christina Writz advises residents to wash their hands often and stay home if they experience vomiting, diarrhea, or abdominal pain.  WEAU
