- ➤ Micon Cinemas debuts new films this week including 'The Strangers - Chapter 3,' 'Solo Mio,' 'Whistle' and 'Still Hope' at multiple locations. Downtown shows best picture nominees, Oakwood Mall hosts a free Super Bowl screening on Sunday, and Galentine’s Day parties on Feb. 12 feature a 'Wuthering Heights' screening. WEAU
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Olympian Mike Peplinski — a teacher at Locust Lane Elementary — visited the school today to show students curling techniques as the Winter Games open in Italy. WEAU
- ➤ Flynn Elementary teacher Mr. Mutter was honored with the Golden Apple award for his dedicated work with all students, and both he and the school received a $500 prize sponsored by Security Health Plan + Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation. WEAU
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Senator Jeff Smith and Representative Jodi Emerson introduced a bill to reimburse schools for Narcan (a drug that reverses opioid overdoses) as opioid deaths became the top killer of school-aged children. The effort, costing under $300,000 via DOJ grants, will supply every public, private and charter school with the treatment. WEAU
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Chippewa Valley Cooperative Hospital will add wound care services in the next few weeks after the cancer center opened in early November. Hospital staff are working quickly to meet rising healthcare demand as patients face fewer options. WEAU
- ➤ Heidi Paxson Garcia spoke with Alison Jones (child psychologist) about building a Super Bowl mindset by practicing positive thoughts and embracing discomfort daily. Jones stressed training mental strength is as important as physical practice for preparing for big challenges. WEAU
