CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Old Abes show choir will host Winterfest 2026 on Saturday, Feb. 7 at the renovated auditorium at Eau Claire Memorial High School — an all-day music competition with the choir performing at 9:15 p.m., and tickets cost $20 with free admission for children under 5. WEAU
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ South Middle School honored teacher Shelby Moore with the Golden Apple award, celebrating her role in sparking 'a-ha' moments among students. With generous sponsorship (JC Norby and Associates), both she and the school will receive a $500 grant from the Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation. WEAU
- ➤ The University of Wisconsin MBA Consortium, a joint online program from UW-Eau Claire, UW-La Crosse and UW-Oshkosh, was named the top online MBA program in Wisconsin by U.S. News and World Report, tying for 14th nationally and serving 375 students. WEAU
- ➤ Wisconsin Secretary of State announced $73.5 million in funding today to support public school libraries in Eau Claire with books, digital media + technology. The funds come from the Common School Fund to enhance students' learning resources. Leader-Telegram
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Senator Jeff Smith and Representative Jodi Emerson introduced legislation that would supply schools with funds to purchase opioid-antagonists — proven to reverse overdoses in emergencies. The bill aims to equip staff with life-saving tools amid rising opioid-related deaths in school communities. WEAU
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Local athletes across western Wisconsin signed to college programs today, with Kaylee Gunderson joining UW-Whitewater and Paige Blade committing to UW-Platteville - others also joined football, baseball, track, and volleyball teams. This signing day marks a key sports milestone for the community. WEAU
- ➤ Team Hebert competed at the U.S. Olympic trials in November and is now headed to Denmark to represent Team USA at the World Junior Curling Championships. They fly out Feb. 21 and compete from Feb. 24. WEAU
- ➤ UW-Eau Claire men’s basketball sought to end a three-game losing streak in a game against UW-River Falls on Wednesday, Feb. 4 in Eau Claire+ WIAC scores and Wisconsin’s Ms. Basketball semifinalists were also released. WEAU
- ➤ Three Western Wisconsin athletes were named semi-finalists for the WBCA Ms. Basketball award. Samantha Davis + Adaline Sheplee + Alahnna Simpson have posted strong season averages and the panel will choose five finalists after the regular season with the winner announced at the state tournament.
