- ➤ On Wednesday, the Unitarian Universalist Congregation hosted an interfaith prayer service on Farwell Street, bringing locals of different faiths together to share traditions. The service, held three times a year throughout the Chippewa Valley, will next take place in May. WEAU
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Collectors Con will run March 13 — 15 at The Lismore Hotel downtown where collectors can find Funkos, Legos, comics, sports memorabilia and vintage items, with admission set at $5 for adults and free entry for those 17 and under. Celebrity guests will appear on Saturday and Sunday. WEAU
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Nearly 52,000 passengers passed through Chippewa Valley Regional Airport in 2025 — a 16% rise from 2024 — as staff work with airline partners to expand service while Sun Country seasonal flights resume Friday. TSA will begin enforcing a $45 fee for alternative identity verification starting Feb. 1. WEAU

- ➤ Boys & Girls Clubs of the Greater Chippewa Valley named Richard Mayne its new CEO on Jan. 19, 2026. With 30 years of leadership experience, he will guide the organization’s operations, programming & strategic growth for local youth. WEAU
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Early bird registration is now open for the 32nd Annual Chippewa Valley Rally hosted by the Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce. The event will take place on Feb. 19 at Best Western Premier Park Hotel and the Capitol, where participants will discuss regional economic priorities with policymakers. WEAU
- ➤ A water main break on Fairfax Street near the Hy-Vee gas station (adjacent to Memorial High School) forced detours Wednesday evening and led city crews to start emergency repairs at 5 p.m. WEAU
- ➤ Local groups including the Chamber, Health Department, and Human Services released a report with six strategies to curb homelessness in Eau Claire County. The Housing Our Neighbors Planning Collaborative will discuss the plan Friday, Jan. 30 at the Chamber’s Eggs and Issues event (highlighting service alignment and affordable housing). WQOW

- ➤ The Eau Claire City-County Health Department released a measles and respiratory update today and reported that a travel-related measles case in Waukesha County poses no local risk while high levels of influenza, COVID-19, and RSV are causing hospitalizations and prompting residents to verify their vaccinations. - ➤ State health officials report influenza is declining while COVID-19 and RSV continue to rise, and they recommend residents get vaccinated at local clinics and pharmacies. Health experts advise wearing masks and staying home if ill. WEAU
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ UW-Eau Claire hosted UW-Stout in men’s and women’s basketball at Sonnentag on Wednesday, Jan. 28. UW-La Crosse teams also played UW-River Falls in games that heated up the I‑94 rivalry. WEAU
- ➤ UW-River Falls football team held a parade today to celebrate its first national championship after beating North Central College 24-14 three weeks ago. Fans lined the streets despite cold weather as students returned from winter break. WEAU
