COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Chippewa Valley Home Builders Association is hosting its 6th LEGO Home Building Contest for all ages, with photo entries due January 31 at 5:00 p.m. Winners announced the week of Feb. 9 will win $50 from Micon Cinemas + display their builds at the Home Show Feb. 20-22.  WEAU
  • Families can borrow free winter gear from the Gear Share Program at Pinehurst Park and other centers as the region sees extra snow — 10 inches above average — fueling winter activities. The service, created by Visit Eau Claire and partners, helps residents try new sports and reduce isolation.  WEAU

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Today, the City of Eau Claire Economic Development Division launched a Business Startup Toolkit to help local entrepreneurs start and grow their business — the online hub offers step-by-step guidance, local resource links, and direct access to business assistance partners.  WEAU

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Wisconsin and Chippewa Valley Technical College plan a new initiative called Learning and Inspiring Futures Together. Funded by a $239,000 grant from the UW School of Medicine and Public Health’s Wisconsin Partnership Program, the effort will offer hands-on learning and mental health lessons for kids 6-18 this summer or fall.  WQOW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Eau Claire Fire & Rescue urged property owners yesterday to clear snow and ice from 3 feet around hydrants so firefighters can quickly access water during emergencies. The call comes as winter conditions heighten risks + the simple measure helps protect lives and property.  WEAU
  • On Tuesday night, the Planning and Development Committee approved a rewrite of the county recycling ordinance to standardize fines. The new plan sets fines at $50 for a first violation, $200 for a second, and $400 for additional infractions—pending County Board approval in February.  WQOW
  • Eau Claire County approved hiring a law firm to investigate PFAS contamination at Chippewa Valley Regional Airport and to seek up to $500K in litigation damages. The county board will vote on the measure on Jan. 20.  WQOW

  • On Jan. 13, local prep boys basketball games saw McDonell face Fall Creek and Eau Claire Memorial host Marshfield, while ECA Stars took on Hudson and Memorial battled Menomonie on the ice—RAW wrestling hosted a girls invite.  WEAU
  • Eau Claire North girls basketball hosted Eau Claire Memorial in a crosstown rivalry match on Tuesday, Jan. 13 in Eau Claire.  WEAU
