  • The City of Eau Claire invites residents to send in images or videos that promote free transit rides for students and to nominate a neighbor as Snow Shoveling Champion — entries are due online by mid-February with winners earning prizes.  WEAU
  • Heidi Boxx reported her 5-month-old puppy Rita went missing on New Year's Eve while unloading groceries on Hwy 27 between Augusta and Cadott, and community tips along with footprints and tire tracks in fresh snow have boosted the reward from $3,000 to $10,000.  WQOW

  • The Eau Claire Economic Development Division has launched a new online startup toolkit to answer business questions and support local entrepreneurs. The resource offers clear guidance for those starting ventures today.  Leader-Telegram

EDUCATION NEWS

  • YMCA of the Chippewa Valley is relaunching its Youth in Government program for 7th-12th graders in a 10‐week session starting Feb. 9, where students learn to draft and debate bills. An informational meeting is set on Feb. 1 from 5-7 p.m. at the YMCA Sports Center, with registration at $150.  WQOW
  • The 54th Annual DECA District I Career Development Conference took place Saturday, Jan. 10 at UW-Stout, where hundreds of high school students applied critical thinking, teamwork and communication skills in team and individual events.  WEAU

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The City of Eau Claire’s Forestry Department is nearing completion of its ash tree removal on boulevards. Crews have cut nearly 10,000 trees since 2012, and fewer than 350 remain to be removed — the project also includes stump grinding and replanting new tree varieties.  WQOW

HEALTH NEWS

  • Gundersen Medical Foundation raised $5.2 million for its EmPATH unit, a specialized mental health facility that will open in the coming months — aimed at improving local access to care.  The Chippewa Herald

SPORTS NEWS

  • Aquinas girls basketball won 57–53 over Regis on Monday, Jan. 12 after junior point guard EllaMay Cooper scored 25 points (a game-high). Eau Claire Immanuel beat Whitehall, Eau Claire North hosted a wrestling quad meet, and UW-Eau Claire men’s basketball made progress in conference play.  WEAU
