- ➤ A donation grant of $239,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Wisconsin will boost hands-on activities for children through a partnership with the University of Wisconsin (CVTC and Educators Rising Club). The three-year program will launch this summer, CEO Travis Austad said. WEAU
- ➤ The Eau Claire Community Humane Association announced a generous donation that sponsors 25 dogs for adoption with no fee in 2026 (spay/neuter deposits may still apply). WEAU
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Caroline Bach was named Allen Media’s Wisconsin Regional News Director to oversee WKOW-Madison, WAOW-Wausau, WXOW-La Crosse and WQOW-Eau Claire. She began her role on Jan. 1 — after years of service at WKOW — and replaces former director Dani Maxwell, who moved to a national position with Allen Media Broadcasting. WQOW
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Five candidates are competing for two school board seats in the Eau Claire Area School District election on April 7; paperwork was filed by Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2026, and the top two vote-getters will serve three-year terms while the candidate with the third-highest votes will serve one year. WEAU
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City crews began clearing slushy side streets after freezing rain and wet snow turned roads messy on Wednesday morning—efforts may continue through Thursday as residents are asked to clear catch basins and follow alternate side parking rules. WQOW
- ➤ The new PFAS treatment facility, built for $20 million to remove chemicals from Eau Claire's drinking water, is nearing completion and is expected to treat water by late spring to summer while the city reviews a 20% rate increase proposal—its virtual public hearing is scheduled for Jan. 20.
